Originally from Venezuela, Maria Carolina is a Bilingual and Bicultural Mental Health Clinician at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC). Committed to being a strong advocate, she provides clinical support and resources to children and families who have experienced trauma. Maria Carolina provides the Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) and Problematic Sexual Behavior-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT), as well as mental health consultation to families and multidisciplinary teams (MDT) to identify helpful resources in the community.

Maria Carolina has several years of experience working with children and families. Prior to coming to the CAC, she worked for the Boston Emergency Service Team as a Child Clinician and later as an Assistant Director where she evaluated children and adolescents in crisis, provided clinical support, collaborated with providers, and made appropriate referrals. She also worked as a Clinician at The Home For Little Wanderers in a group home, where she provided individual, group, and family therapy to children and adolescents. Internationally, Maria Carolina spent a year in Venezuela after obtaining her Master’s, helping to start a non-profit organization which provides multidisciplinary therapies (occupational, psychological, physical, and speech) at a low cost to underserved populations. She continues to have strong connections to the organization.

Maria Carolina holds a Master's in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University Medical School, and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts.

In her free time, Maria Carolina enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, and staying active outdoors.
