CAC Receives 10 Years of Support from Cummings Foundation
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC) is proud to be one of 150 local nonprofits selected to receive multi-year grants totaling between $30,000 and $1,000,000 each through Cummings Foundation’s $30 Million Grant Program. The CAC is one of just 25 organizations chosen to receive 10 years of funding during the competitive review process.
“Receiving a 10-year Cummings Foundation grant is a game-changer for the CAC,” said CAC Executive Director Annie Marcklinger. “With this long-term commitment, we can plan for the expansion of our prevention and education programming, deepen our partnerships in the community, and continue our efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding child sexual abuse and exploitation.”
The Cummings $30 Million Grant Program supports Massachusetts nonprofits that are based in and primarily serve Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties. Through this place-based initiative, Cummings Foundation aims to give back in the area where it owns commercial buildings, all of which are managed, at no cost to the Foundation, by its affiliate, Cummings Properties. Founded in 1970 by Bill Cummings, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm leases and manages 10 million square feet of debt-free space, the majority of which exclusively benefits the Foundation. Cummings Foundation was originally created to give back in the areas where the funds were derived, specifically the suburban Boston communities where the Cummings organization manages commercial real estate. It also seeks to support the cities and towns where Cummings’ staff and leasing clients live. Cummings Foundation has now awarded more than $600 million to greater Boston nonprofits.
The Foundation and its volunteers first identified 150 organizations to receive grants of at least $30,000 each. Among the winners are first-time recipients as well as nonprofits that have previously received Cummings Foundation grants. A limited number of this latter group of repeat recipients were invited to make in-person presentations in May to propose that their grants be elevated to long-term awards. Twenty-five such requests, including the CAC’s, were granted 10-year awards ranging up to $1,000,000 each paid over the 10 years.
“We are honored that Cummings Foundation volunteers saw the value in our work with the children and families of Suffolk County,” Marcklinger said. “Together, we will raise awareness about our services, expand access to life saving services and continue to work to prevent child abuse.”
